The emblematic workshop of Maison Molinard. For one hour, accompanied by a perfume expert, you explore the structure of a fragrance, discover top, heart, and base notes, and compose your own creation from 90 essences. You leave with a unique 50 ml bottle marked by your olfactory personality.

I would recommend this class to anyone looking for an experience instead of just buying perfume off the shelf. I was also excited to learn that they kept our formulas on hand so we can re-order.

Unfortunately, the workshop felt very rushed. Toward the end, we barely had any time left to smell and compare the final essences, so we ended up having to pick ingredients almost at random just to finish on time. That was disappointing, especially since creating a personalized perfume should be a relaxed and creative process.
We also tried asking the instructor for advice while making our final choices, but she seemed too busy, tired, or simply didn’t have enough time to help us. Some guidance would have made a huge difference, particularly for people with little experience in perfumery.
Overall, the idea is excellent and the quality of the materials is good, but the workshop needs to allow more time for the blending process and provide more support during the final decisions. It could have been a 5-star experience, but the rushed ending left us a little dissatisfied.

Fair enough, we did enjoy parts of it and it’s great you build your own perfume but the magic I experienced a few years ago seems to be gone and certainly the exclusive feel is gone.

C'était l'occasion de découvrir les coulisses de la parfumerie et de réfléchir à nos préférences personnelles.
Nous avons passé un très bon moment à composer tous les deux notre assemblage et (re)découvrir des senteurs.
Seul bémol, l'atelier était complet sur un samedi matin, ce qui rend l'expérience sportive. Il faut avancer vite pour être sûr de finir dans les temps. Vous n'aurez pas le temps de tout sentir et de composer votre parfum à la perfection, alors voyez-le comme un atelier découverte et soyez stratégique.
Le personnel est disponible et nous a bien aidés à rendre nos assemblages cohérents.
Je recommande pour ceux qui veulent passer un moment particulier avec leur moitié.

The workshop, in order to be kept at 60 minutes needs an instructor for each table of 10 guests to help move the process along. A one instructor to 10 guests ratio versus one instructor for 20 guests. Myself, along with other guests, felt like we were up against a clock to make our perfumes in the time allotted. The process was clear as to how to select and note preferred fragrances. Wasted time trying to locate the fragrances we had just tried was a main issue. What we were just trying was put back in a different location or with another guest. Having the scents in fixed locations against a wall that we walk up to try and use would have saved serious time during this class and also prevent bottles from potentially breaking.
My husband, daughter and I do like what I created and I will use this fragrance.

Second - I was traveling with my husband and adult son - and they both enjoyed the event. And came away with new found knowledge and two very different scents.
Third - Our Molinard guide was very helpful. Let’s face it - we knew nothing about mixing perfume. She would come by at every stage, smell our selection and ask questions. Based on our response, she might suggest removing one scent or adding another. Once we had our 10 different scents, she would evaluate it, ask more questions and suggest changes if needed. It was great having a well trained nose to guide us along the process. Before final mixing, she gave us the amounts for each scent to create our perfume.
Fourth - It was amazing to come away with our unique scents. Waiting a week to let the scent develop was no hardship. Now we each have our unique scent and a newfound appreciation for the nuances of perfume making.
Fifth - Why Molinard? You can walk by dozens of shops in Paris claiming that you can make your own scent. I felt that the level of expertise at Molinard insured that we didn’t end up with stinky perfumes…

The class is small enough to have direct engagement with the facilitator. I learned about the different layers of scents, and how to combine them.
